Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words) Product 1 I intend to convey the conventions of a real-life story magazine through my magazine ‘Blure’ , aimed primarily at young demographic ranging from 16- 25-year-old mass market audience. Through my research in the magazine industry, mainly focusing on real life magazines under Bauer such as Closer, Heat and Grazia. They predominantly used a bright colour palette- pink, yellow, black and white for their front covers and content page. With this information in hand, I intend to follow the conventions of an eye-catching front cover with professional photography alongside it. I also intend to use the same purple font ‘Blure’ on both my first and second edition of my magazine's front covers in order to establish a brand identity for magazine. I also intend to have a call to action on both front covers saying 'Have your embarrasing story featured on the next edition", which encourages the reader to actively enagage and interact with the magazine as theorized by Clay Shirky which shows the audience engaging with the media. Thus, making them more likely to purchase the next edition in order to see their embarrasing stories. As well as using a mix of different races in order to represent my magazine as inclusive as well as providing a form of entertainment where young people can relate to the people photographed. My magazine will cover unthinkable stories such as ‘my artworks in the National Gallery' and 'I taught the elderly the wonders of music' . This mirrors the type of stories Closer or the Heat would cover but on real life people, to create a sense of relatability. As well as showing the generic conventions of a real-life magazine with its sensationalist headlines that enages the young reader. I will also have a short catchy slogan in order to create a stronger sense of brand identity- 'realism at its finest'. Which portrays the aim to represent how celebrities are not the only ones with exciting lives that can be written about in lifestyle magazines.I would also include intertextual references in order to establish meaning quickly. I intend to engage my audience by having shoots done with natural lighting minimal editing in reflection to magazines such as Closer and Heat which portray realism and the realistic appearance of what celebrities look like, which is a part of my USP which is to to show and relate to young adults who are living in a society that prides looks over personality. Young adults will be able to relate to that unfiltered presence, that isn't always shown in magazines. Both contents pages will include the same layout in order to create a stong sense of brand identity, with links to their social media handles as well as the link for the site in order to promote 'BLURE's' other platforms. This will be followed alongside text that promotes their one month trial subscription, and an image of the next edition with a brief description of the context. This will increase anticipation and make them more willing to subscribe to access the edition. Product 2 audience can create correlations between both medias. For example using the same purple font for 'BLURE' so my targeted demographic can draw the links and associate that with my magazine. Hence creating a strong sense of brand identity. I also intend to have one primary colour for my website for eample Heat (red) as well as being more more picture based which will engage my young audience more. I intend to also have an announcement 'subscribe' appear on the screen once you enter my website alongside text that highlights the magazine releases new editions monthly and the 1 month free trial. This will make the young demographic more likely to subscribe as they are given the chance to see the benefits the magazine will pprovide for them. After researching online magazines under Bauer,my production company, I intend to have navigation bar that consists of topics such as 'Celebrity', 'Beauty', 'Health' and 'Travel' as they are all categorically under the term of what a real life magazine consists of as well as the categories in my contents page. In addition i will include a 30 second clip which will be the subcategory to 'more' The website will also be image based alongside topics that would appeal to the young demographic such as celebrity culture. As well as a 'send your most embarrasing story' sub-category where they submit their stories to be included in the "your embarrasing stories" section of my magazine and website. This is a reflection of Clay Shirky's theory whereby media has become more active as the audience makes part of it, this will also create great attraction to the site as they will want to read these stories and or participate.. I will also include an easter egg on the website whereby when they click the easel on the home page they are sent to the article for my first edition for my magazine. I intend to include different races and gender on my website in order to draw links to my magazine in order to potray my magazine as inclussive and representive which is also what my USP is for my magazine. How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words) Through my research, digital convergence plays a key role in creating a strong sense of brand identity within an industry that's slightly declining. Thus, the use of interrogatives (call to action) such as 'follow','subscribe' or 'join' in order to create traction to the online side of our medium such as Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter which are culturally a part of the 16-25 age bracket . In order to achieve this I will include a link to the website on the contents page. By including the 1 month free trial in my contents page, it will encourage digital interaction with my medium. I also intend to include a section on the homepage where they can view Twitter comments with the @BLURE about their embarrasing stories. This shows the influence of digital convergence as i'm bringing two platforms (Twitter) and (online magazines) together. I will also include an easter egg on the website whereby when they click the easel on the home page they are sent to the article for my first edition for my magazine. As well as a 30 second clip to provide entertainment.
